The Practice of Loving Kindness

Artical Meditation Benefits

I’ve been asked about how meditation can help when you are feeling down or when you have an illness that seems to take over your life.

Starting by being kind to yourself.  Then let this lead to being kind to others. The old saying of  ‘What goes around comes around.’  is appropriate here.

Kindness is being of a sympathetic nature.  Sympathy is the ability to understand or share the feelings of another.  Expression of sorrow for anothers misfortune.

Whether  you are meditating and you have your body relaxed or you are sitting quietly or walking along a quiet path, gently become aware of your feelings and emotions.  Start from where you are and look for a sense of contentment.

Remain aware  of what you are feeling and wish yourself well.  Have an attitude of caring for yourself.

Say:    I am  well

            I am  happy

            I am free from suffering

Let the effects of these words ripple gently into your emotions.

You can visualize a flower dropping into a still pool of water.  Watch as the flower lands.  The rippling effect spreads out around the flower.

Think of a time when you felt well and content.  Experience this feeling once more with confidence and ease.

Repeat:   I am well

                  I am happy

                  I am free from suffering

Think about a good friend.  Wish them well.

Say:    May you be well

            May you be happy

May you be free from suffering

Become aware of the changes taking place with these words.  The change may be subtle.  The change may not be what you expected.

Continue to be aware what happens to your emotions as you wish your friend well.

Repeat this again while you think of someone you barely know.  A bank teller, a store clerk, it can be anyone you come in contact with and can visualize.

We all want to be well and happy and free from suffering.  By starting with yourself and then moving outward like the ripple of the water surrounding the flower that landed in the quiet pool, you will find peace and contentment in yourself.

Be kind. Be loving.  Do these things for your self and for those around you. The results will amaze you.

Ask For The Best of Everything

The way to ask and not ask.    I have read many books by different authors that all say the same thing.

Ask

Be specific

Say Thank You

Expect It To Happen

So I asked, thought I was specific, said thank you and went on my way.

Nothing much happened.

Then I thought, well maybe I was not specific enough.  After all, doesn’t the universe know what I mean?  I have it in my head and it should be obvious what I mean.

That’s not the way it happens.

Since then I realized that I was wrong, and maybe a little lazy, about taking time to really think things though.

So if you think you have taken enough time and have written down your desires in detail and you still don’t receive what you desire then might I suggest you start fresh.

And once you take this time to think and articulate what it is you are shooting for then make sure it makes sense to you.  And remember that being grateful daily is not a bad thing.

Words have power.  So don’t write down or say, “I want…”,  for what you want you will always want.

Think in different terms.

‘Thank you for the $750.00 of unexpected money for the new HP laptop computer that will come in handy for my home office this month. And thank you for all the download programs that will be on my new laptop to make my work go smoothly.  Microsoft Windows 7, Carbonite, Snagit,…”

You get the picture.

And if it is stress relief you seek, ask for understanding of how things were set up.  Get specific and you just might find the answer by stepping back and looking at it from a different angle.

Keep meditating and watch the world unfold at your feet.  Don’t get discouraged.  Take a breath, release it and smile.

Becoming Honest With Ourselves

Artical Meditation Benefits

We all want to present our best side to the world.  It’s in our nature to want to look good and make a favorable impression.  But eventually, this wears us down and can become hard to maintain.  And then what happens?

There’s an old saying…’You only hurt the ones you love.’

Stress can be a hidden destroyer of our dreams and goals.  It can stop us from moving forward on our life path to perfection.

Think about it.  First, something happens that upsets you.  It can be a situation at work, it can be something happening to a family member or yourself, it can be that you lost a bet on the golf course.  Anything can start you off.  As your life moves on, if you don’t relieve the stress and get rid of the baggage that comes along with it, you may find yourself struggling to put on that happy face.  Some people bury these stressful things deep inside and others are able let them go.

Becoming honest with yourself can be very healing.  Not only for us, but for the relationships we have with others.

If you’re one of those who don’t know what is causing your stress or you just want to get control of your life, then daily meditation can help you understand and release the stress.

I find that writing a letter to the one that has upset me, expressing in great detail what I think about them, and then shredding the letter, is a great way to get thing off my chest and yet not burn my bridges behind me.  I used this method when I first got married.  It can work for any situation you have issues with.  Whether it is your boss or a co-worker, another member of  a group you belong to. Surely you can think of someone.

Then there was the method I employed when my kids reached adolescence.  Talking into the mirror and really letting my feelings fly was great therapy for me, and again, I did not directly hurt the ones I loved.

When I first started meditating it was to understand myself, how I set myself up, and because I wanted to quit being so….crabby. I started having knee jerk reactions to things and I did not like who I was becoming.

Meditation can be alot of things to many people.  Anyone who meditates regularly can tell you about their stories and accomplishments resulting from meditating. Athletes have improved their game, businesses have benefited from the clarity of mind and the energy that meditation brings to its’ employees.  People of all walks of life have become happy and joyful because they do something for themselves everyday.

If you have not meditated before but would like to learn, you can receive a free report on the 7 Simple Steps to Meditating by going to www.meditationforbeginners1.com .

Get started today by taking time for yourself.

Before starting your meditation, quietly think about some of the issues you would like resolved. Ask for guidance and be open to whatever comes tro mind.  Don’t be surprised if  other things become resolved. Don’t be surprised if you think nothing has been resolved.  It may be resolved  some time in the future. That is very common with meditation. Meditation is an ongoing process that makes you feel good and opens your mind and heart  to higher energy. Enlightenment comes when you least expect it.

Maintaining Peace In Your Life

Artical Meditation Benefits

For anyone looking for peace and less stress, it is important to think about what really matters to you and what you want out of this life.  Meditating can help. Meditation clears the fog away and opens up the mind to all the possibilities there are to help you understand you and the life you want for yourself.

In my young adulthood, I just thought about what I was doing right now.  As I entered my early twenties, I thought about the life I was about to build with my soon to be husband.

I think we all have some idea of what we like to do.  We all have ideas about what we think we can accomplish in the future.  We know what kind of people we like, who we would like to be like, and what we think we have to do to reach our goals.

But do we ever really stop and think in detail about what we really want?

I never did.  I had a general idea but not much else.  For me, it was having a successful marriage so I could have a couple of kids, dogs and cats, and maybe if I was lucky, a horse.  Much more than that never entered my mind.

I consider myself lucky. I got a job I really liked and was proud of.  My kids were not much trouble and I have a husband who has been my best friend our whole marriage.  Things moved along well for many years and I never noticed what was going on around me.  Mostly because the world outside of my own did not effect me.

But like anything else in the world, outside influences do eventually come to light.

Many of us, at one time or other, find ourselves in new and strange territory.  In today’s world, there is more instability and uncertainty then there has been in the last two generations.  The divorce rate has been high for a long time and lately I’ve heard the phrase, “My soon to be ex wife.” before couples are even married.  Not funny.

So here we are, trying to move forward in our lives with happiness and joy and sometimes we run into snags.  Your snag will be different than mine, but there is something you can do to resolve problems and bring peace of mind and prosperity into your life.

One of the first things I found useful is being honest.  It is often hard to make the right choices in our lives but sometimes stepping back and looking at things from a different perspective can lead us to the truth.

Meditating daily can bring clarity and understanding to situations that we just can’t seem to sort out by ourselves.  Meditation can help clear your mind and allow energy to flow through you.

The human tendency is to resist change.  The problem comes when we become attached to the norm. We allow ourselves to remain as we are because we are comfortable with things as they are now. Sometimes it is hard to summon up the courage to change our life.  Sometimes it is hard to summon up the courage to be honest with ourselves and recognize what is wrong, what is causing us to resist, and what it is we have to do to change.

I started meditating 15 years ago and the very first thing I noticed was my stress level going down.  As I have said, I feel blessed that I have not had the troubles many people have had.  My snags are different than yours, but at the time, when I started meditating it was for a reason.

If you have never meditated, I highly recommend that you do.  It has changed my life in more ways than I ever expected it to.
